A distinguished legal expert said, the recent audio clip of the Office of OHCHR exposed various international media and human rights organization’s report on suspected rape and sexual violence in Tigray Regional State are unsubstantiated and super-influenced to become popular in the media.
The leaked audio clip reiterated the failure of the accuser, because so far, the United Nations agencies in Ethiopia and East Africa have not obtained any concrete evidence to confirm reports of widespread rape and sexual violence in Ethiopia’s Tigray state.
Expert Dereje Demssie said in an interview with local media that thorough information collection and processing activities must be carried out to verify complaints about allegations of sexual violence and rape against women and girls.
“If there is sufficient evidence to prove the charges, the persons involved in the crime must be held accountable ,” Dereje added.
