President Macky Sall Calls for Economic Interconnectedness Among African Nations

Senegalese President Macky Sall called for economic interconnectedness among African nations to tap continental opportunities for regional mutual benefit.

“Our continent offers many economic opportunities. African unity is essential to take advantage of our interconnected world and weigh on the decisions that govern it. Together, we have to make it happen,” he underlined.

Last week, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and President Macky Sall held extensive talks on bilateral and African issues which included a common understanding of strengthening partnerships for continental growth and integration.

Prime Minister Abiy shared the need to work together in strengthening continental integration, capitalizing on shared resources, and tapping into a young human capital for continental economic prosperity.

President Macky Sall congratulated Ethiopia for a successful conclusion to the elections and reiterated the commitment to work in close cooperation on a shared vision.

President Macky Sall was elected Chairman of the NEPAD Head of States and Government Orientation Committee in 2013, confirming his leadership on the African continent. Being an Agency of the African Union for the socio-economic development of the continent, the NEPAD is both a vision and a strategic framework for Africa in the 21st century. It deals with a number of programs and projects in six thematic areas: Agriculture and Food Safety, Climate Change and Natural Resources Management, Regional Integration and Infrastructure, Human Development, Economic and Business Development, and Cross-cutting issues.
